Taking the stage from 7-10 pm on Wednesday, May 13th, for the first time at Whisperz Speakeasy - Eddie Brookshire Trio feat. Brenda Flowers joins us for a night to remember! Every Wednesday, we offer 25% off standard whiskey, bourbon, and scotch pours & cocktails!

Eddie Brookshire (Bass) was born in Carthage, Mississippi and moved to Dayton, Ohio at age 6. Originally a Clarinet player, while in the US Army taught himself Electric Bass, first toured and recorded with Piney Brown's Blues Band, then toured with The Coasters. He formed the fusion band The Casual Society, and soon joined Rusty Bryant, recording Friday Night Funk with him in 1970. After Acoustic Bass studies with Larry Gales, he joined James Newton's jazz group. He attended Central State University, and organized the University's Big Band, and played in award winning jazz combos and Ethnic Ensembles in addition to numerous musicianship awards at jazz festivals. He attended Northern Illinois University for grad studies in World Music; He won more musicianship awards and ran jazz combos for the University.


Throughout and upon completing college he traveled with Vibe player Johnny Lytle, on occasion backed Little Jimmy Scott, worked in bands of Elvin Jones, Norris Turney, Booty Wood, Sandra Reeves-Phillips, Buddy Webb, Cal Collins, and Pherez Whitted. Eddie worked in bands with Karl Allen, Little Johnny Taylor, Lowell Folson, Bill Holman, Bob Curnow, Maria Schneider, Claude Williams, Snooky Young, Von Freeman, Earl Warren, John Carter, Billy Harper, Benny Maupin, Jimmy Owens, Nathan Davis, Woody Shaw, Slide Hampton, Gerri Allen, Jay McShan, Roy Ayers, Wilbert Longmire, David Fathead Newman and Azar Lawrence. Eddie is a former member of Kishwaukee Comm. Symphony Orchestra, present member of AAJC-IAJE Big Band, Eddie received the NAFEO award for excellent performance (Acoustic Bass), recipient of The Presser Foundation Award. He currently teaches at Sinclair Comm. College, (Bass, Omprov, and Jazz Combo) and at the University of Dayton, (Bass, Jazz Combos). He is a member of A.F.M. Union 101-473, and along with the Trio he also leads The Eddie Brookshire Big Band.

Brenda Flowers (Vocals/Trombone) was born in Trenton, New Jersey. She studied piano at Trenton Conservatory of Music, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Central State University and a master's degree in educational leadership from Wright State University. Brenda taught music at DPS for 32 and a half years. She has been apart of Women in Jazz for several years, sang the National Anthem at the Convocation for Dayton Public Schools for several years. She also was a Clinician at University of Dayton Summer Jazz Camp with Dr. Willie Morris and Don Braden. Brenda has performed with guitarist Kenny Burrell, Mulgrew Miller, Conrad Helwig, opened the show for Nancy Wilson, performed with Woody Shaw, John Fedchock, Slide Hampton, Eddie Brookshire Orchestra, Eddie Love Big Band, vocalist/trombonist in the Dayton Jazz Orchestra, Dayton Dennis Deblasio, Cecil McBee, Mitchell Booty Wood, Nancy Wilson's cousin's wedding, Dayton Jazz Festival, Cincinnati Jazz Festival, Springfield Jazz Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Johnny Lytle, Chris Braun, John Purcell, Frank Foster, Norris Turney, Wood Shaw, Sylvester McPherson and George Russell.

Please remember, we do not accept reservations. Guests are seated on a first-come, first-serve basis. We require guests dress in appropriate attire, meaning business casual through evening elegance or period-appropriate attire, if you wish (jeans are acceptable but must be well-kempt). We are 25 & up and require a valid ID for entry!
